What’s Muffle furnace?

Muffle furnace is a type of compact oven. It covers a small area so that it can provide a higher temperature for samples. The main roles it plays are that it can provide a high temperature about 1200 to 1700℃ and a safe environment for users. Muffle Furnaces are machines that designed to safely and efficiently reduce high temperature heating, recovery and cooling times for applications such as sample ashing, material research and heat treatment.


Our INNOVA muffle furance’s core parts are equipped with high precision sensor and import programmed temperature controller to achieve high-performance. The import programmed temperature controller can up to 64 segments.

Next, i will introduce the conditions designed to rise temperature and safety.

Ⅰ.Temperature

1.Muffle furnace use heaters like alloy heating wire and silicon molybdenum rod to provide a high temperature. High purity silicon molybdenum rod with a long working life can makes a higher temperature than alloy heating wire and temperature uniformity inner the chamber better.

2.The air jacket between shell and inner chamber can insulate. Double air duct can ensure a excellent ventilation.These two makes shell unaffected or affect a little--low temperature rise, and thus higher temperature accuracy. 

Ⅱ.Safety

1.Safety equipment include manual door security lock, over temperature sound-light alarm,door opening electrical outage, over-temperature protection, thermocouple failure alarm.

It has many applications, i will cite some examples as follows: 

1.Materials Science:Functional material can be produced by muffle furace. E.g.: metal oxide, advanced ceramic materials etc.

2. Chemistry Engineering: Muffle furnaces also play an important role that provide the condition of high temperature in some reaction processes like synthesis of organic matter, crystallization and thermal decomposition of inorganic matter. 

3. Environment Monitoring: Sample pretreatment-calcine in environmental monitoring makes the test result more accurate.

4. Energy Research: It can used to the process of producing electrolytes and anode materials for solid oxide fuel cells.


During the usage of muffle furnace, Thermal gloves, crucible, crucible tongs and alumina burning plates are required to use to prevent burning hurt and heat more evenly. Sometimes balances will also used to calculate the differences of sample’s weight before and after furance.
